Your devices
Rolello never sees your notes: they are encrypted on this device, and the key never leaves it. Signing in is how a new device is handed that key by one that already has it, never how we get it. The relay only ever carries something it cannot open.
A recovery phrase is 24 words that stand for the key itself. Losing it costs you sync, never a note — your notes are files on your own disk.

Nothing matches that.
Every note is a plain .md file in a folder you can open in Finder. No database,
no proprietary format, no account. Keep the folder in Dropbox, iCloud Drive or a git repo
if you like; edit the files in any other editor and Rolello re-indexes them.
Press ⌘N and type. Rolello does not ask where the note goes, what it is called, or which notebook it belongs to. Naming and filing are things you can do later, or never.
Type [[ and a note name to link. The note on the other end lists the link
back on its own, and unlinked mentions are surfaced with one tap to promote — never
linked silently behind your back.
The search box takes the same query grammar the rolello blocks take, so
wine tag:client narrows a word search by a property your notes already
carry. tag:, notebook: and in: name a tag or a
folder; any other word before the colon is a frontmatter property of your own, so
status:active works the moment you have written status: in a
note. Put - in front to exclude (-tag:archived), |
between alternatives (status:active|blocked), and > or
< for after and before (due:<2026-09-01). created: and updated: work on every note, including ones you brought in from somewhere else that carry no dates of their own.
The Ask panel searches your notes and composes an answer with the notes it used shown above the answer. If nothing in your notes matches, it says so instead of inventing something.
Rolello writes back only the part of a note you actually changed, and matches the Markdown style it measured in your own notes. Open a note, change nothing, and the file on disk is byte-for-byte identical.
File ▸ Open Notes Folder… for an existing folder or Obsidian vault, opened in place. File ▸ Import… for Evernote, Notion or Apple Notes. What survives each import is documented, including what does not.
Each importer converts into the same plain Markdown the rest of your notes use, so imported notes and notes you write today are the same kind of thing.
Import runs from the command line today, and the exact command for your choice is shown next. Wiring these buttons to run it directly is the next step, and it is deliberately not pretended to work yet.
An add-on works inside one folder of your notes and can never see the rest. What it may read and change is shown, in plain words, before you say yes.
